Flat Earth Theory

from Never Regret the Nights by Lucas Miré

/

about

This is the lone survivor from a cluster of songs I wrote around 2005 about the same relationship.

The day before we started recording it, I changed the picking pattern to one that was more intricate (for me of little picking), and I'm glad I did.

lyrics

The bar closes down at 2 a.m.
You come home at 3, smell like smoke and gin
I have to be at work at 6
You say you weren’t thinking,
Oh, again…

Chorus
How long can I insist
That
The world is flat?

We have sex, but we don’t kiss
We got lots of love, but we don’t make it
And I guess that’s just the way it is
A real life made by faking it
Oh, again…

Chorus
And how long can you insist
That
The world is flat?
And how long can I insist
That the world is flat

Bridge
I keep thinking things will change
as things often do
But I know that’s just insane,
When I’ve got all these years of proof…

Your mother's in town so we have to
do all the things we're supposed to do
Our neighbor plays his music loud,
and you don't know what I'm talking about
it's over and I'm out

Chorus
And how long can we insist
That
The world is flat

Most of all, it’s just sad
That
What we had is gone
