about

I wanted to put an old song on this CD. This one is about 10 years old, and I didn't change a thing. I wrote this song on the stairmaster at the New Orleans Athletic Club and raced home to get it down.

I love bookending the record with You Got Me and Happy because together they make an infinite loop of relationships. When I heard "Housewife" by Jay Brannon, I thought of this song...I think I wrote mine first though. I'm just sayin'. :)

lyrics

It’s early morning, in the kitchen
We had a late night
And the neighbors won’t stop bitchin’
But it’s alright

We could walk down by the river
see what we see
We could be each other’s forgiver
Just like a family

Chorus
‘I Love You’ rolls right off your tongue
It’s easy
Like you’ve never been hurt by anyone
There’s a secret I’ve been keeping deep inside of me
I think I could be so happy…

We watch a movie, curled on the sofa
It’s some stupid thing
Then some friends call, invite us over
We let the phone ring

We eat dinner at the table
Talk over everything
I’d stay forever if I was able
Just you and me…

Chorus
‘I Love You’ rolls right off your tongue
It’s easy
Like you’ve never been hurt by anyone
There’s no lesson in this sadness that’s been haunting me
You know, I think I could be happy

Bridge
You make me chamomile tea before bed
I listen to your late night stories ‘til my eyes are red
You read books, I play guitar
It’s so simple ‘cuz I love who you are…

And ‘I Love You’ rolls right off my tongue
It’s easy
Like I’ve never been hurt by anyone
There’s no lesson in this sadness that’s been haunting me
Oh no, I think I could be so happy

I think I could be … happy

If I met you, I could be so happy
Are you out there? Are you out there?
Are you out there? Are you..?
Are you out there? Are you out there?
Are you happy?
Because if we met, I bet we could be
happy
