about
When I brought the songs to Clay, who produced the record, he honed in on this one and I think we both felt it's the heart of the record.
It was in a drop D tuning, and I'd never written a chorus like this before, plus the whole song only has two chords. I was definitely in foreign territory, pardon the pun.
lyrics
You're not here for two more weeks
so I re-read that email you sent me
before you left
and I don't really know you
Oh, but I want to...
I might get drunk and stupid
And say something foolish but
i still don't think i'll ever shake this thing
while...
You're in London
You're in London
You're in London
And you say your cell phone won't work over there
You're in London, and I don't care
And you're not here, so I'm left with this song
words and sounds strung along a line
and these few chords, they come in time
and go back and forth,
in my mind I go back and forth,
and forth and back...
I’m inventing my own distractions
while....
You're in London
You're in London
You're in London
And i guess your fingers don't work over there
You're in London, and I don't care
so maybe you kiss somebody you miss me so you kiss somebody you miss me so you kiss somebody you miss me so you kiss somebody you mistake for me but i'm just fine,
though those arms aren't mine
while...
You're in London
You're in London
You're in London
And i guess your dumb heart don't work over there
You're in London
and I don't care
You're In London
I'm in over my head
You're in London
I'm in Love
You're in London
I think I’m in love
I just might be in love
But you're not here
for two more weeks
so I re-read that e-mail you sent me…
